Does this brooch have some esoteric use...
Lost in the mists of time ?
Yes, there are, obviously, occasions when it would be handy to have a spoon pinned to your lapel, but palm trees...?
But they are good looking palm trees, so let that be justification enough.
Meanwhile, this brooch is a discrete 6cm long, made of some sort of thin metal, an attractive antique gold colour and with a suitably sharp pin.
 
UPDATE
A well informed fellow has just told me that these pins were given away by the Californian Burger chain In-N-Out in the 1970s
The founder of this Burger Chains favourite film was  IT'S A MAD MAD MAD MAD WORLD
So, after he'd passed away his sons planted two crossed palm trees (featured in the film) to remember him by...
These pins were then made and given away in the Burger bars...
I have some shinier ones and some more tarnished - I think they are made of brass.
